Stop Looking for Permanent Peace in a Temporary World (And What to Do When the Heat Gets Turned Up)

Let’s be honest for a second. Most of us are exhausted. We spend so much energy trying to build a life that feels safe, stable, and predictable. We look for peace in our bank accounts, the political climate, our career progression, or even our family schedules.

Here’s the reality check we all need today: Stop expecting a temporary world to give you permanent peace.

When we anchor our security in things that can collapse overnight, we set ourselves up for constant anxiety. Modern culture tells us that peace comes from control. But the Apostle Peter points us to something infinitely better—a hope that cannot be shaken by earthly news cycles.

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead."1 Peter 1:3

A "living hope" isn't wishful thinking or positive vibes. It’s anchored in an empty tomb that no earthly crisis can undo. Jesus rose from the dead, which means your ultimate outcome as a believer is already secured.

Why the Heat Feels So Bad

Once we shift our hope to Jesus, a big question usually pops up: If my hope is secure, why is life still so hard? Why am I going through this trial right now?

That brings us to a crucial perspective shift: What if the trial you’re running from is actually God’s fire refining your faith?

"In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ."1 Peter 1:6–7

When comfort becomes our idol, suffering feels like a failure of faith. We start thinking, "God, why are you doing this to me?" But in God’s kingdom, pressure doesn't destroy real faith—it refines it. Fire burns away self-reliance, vanity, and shallow religion, leaving behind pure, unshakeable trust in Christ. Gold goes through the furnace so the impurities rise to the top and get scraped away. Your trials are doing the exact same thing to your soul.

Living it Out Today

  1. Audit Your Anchors: Take an honest look at what kept you up last night. Is your peace tied to something that can change tomorrow? If so, confess that to God and re-anchor your heart in the resurrection.

  1. Reframe the Furnace: Next time a hardship hits, instead of asking, "How do I get out of this?" ask, "Lord, what self-reliance are You burning away in me right now?"

This Week's Challenge

Here is my challenge for you this week: The 3-Minute Peace Audit.

Every morning before you check your notifications, open your notes app or a journal and write down two things:

  1. One earthly thing you are tempted to trust for peace today (your job, your schedule, your bank account).

  1. One specific truth about Jesus' resurrection that proves God is still on the throne.

Say this quick prayer to kick off your day:

Heavenly Father, anchor our hearts in the living hope of Jesus' resurrection when everything around us feels unstable. Help us see our current struggles not as signs of defeat, but as Your refining hand at work. Grant us a peace that never depends on temporary circumstances, and give us endurance to honor You through every test. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Your Turn: Drop a comment below with one area where you need to stop expecting temporary peace and start trusting the resurrection! Share this with someone who needs a reminder that their hope is alive.
